The San Francisco 49ers continue to own the 5th round. The latest pick in the 5th that could turn out to be a homerun is Colton McKivitz, a Tackle from West Virginia. He spent time at both offensive tackle spots in his college career, and he played some guard in the senior bowl. Some scouts think that might be his best position. Colton can move well, and he's is 6'6" and 306 pounds, with the frame to add more strength. The 49ers traded Matt Breida to get him, so they will be looking for return on this investment. As a player, who is Colton McKivitz? Let's take a look at the film.

McKivitz is a good run blocker:

When he gets decent leverage, he can move people pretty well:

Helps seal the crease for his RB on this zone run here and takes his man out of the play:

Colton is too eager to get to the second level here, and then he's indecisive. We want to see him put more into the first block before moving on, and then proceed with confidence. Not terrible though:

Impressive that he can keep a guy at bay with one arm. Again, we'd like to see him finish that first block and then move on, but much more decisive here and a nice rep overall:

Colton can absolutely dominate smaller people in space. That boy is a bully, and we love it:

McKivitz has a steeper learning curve as a pass blocker, but he should be ready to contribute at guard:

He fails to get square and sit here. Without a good base set up, he gets pushed back here:

A decent rep here. Controls his man. Keeps him from affecting the QB:

Another example of him winning the rep without even gaining leverage. If he gets stronger and more consistent at sitting and dropping that anchor, he can become a pretty good pro:

Colton recognizes the blitz here and does a great job of kicking out wide to neutralize it:

Another impressive block from Colton McKivitz. Effectively handles two guys. Defense tries to overload his gap here. Great communication and teamwork between him and his guard:

In conclusion, Colton is a very nice prospect. Considering we had no day two picks, our front office managed to come away with a good amount of talent from the 2020 Draft. We think with an NFL strength and conditioning coach and his position coaches helping improve his technique, McKivitz has a chance to develop into a very nice player. He will likely play guard at first, but don't be surprised to see him play some tackle for us when he refines some of his game. Hopefully, in no time he will be giving defensive lineman in the NFC West a run for their money, and earning the nickname "McGivefits". Another versatile player brought into the mix by our great scouting team, Go Niners!
